I'm Gary Whitaker, Managing Director of Active Regen, welcome to our website.

There are numerous quotes and articles written about the economic deprivation in South Yorkshire. It's probably all true but then life for most people in South Yorkshire has never been easy.

Through our work, at Active Regen, I believe that developing healthier lifestyles, that includes sport and physical activity, can significantly improve the lives of people within the South Yorkshire communities.

My interest in sport began at school. Back in the seventies, I was lucky enough to have had the support of the excellent PE Department at Swinton Comprehensive School. The Head of the PE Department at that time was Trevor Pilton.
Trevor was a great inspiration to me and gave me the opportunity to develop skills in a variety of sports and to become a member of a number of the school teams.

Through working with Trevor and his team, I learned the value of respect, self discipline, fair play and how to deal with winning and losing in a competitive environment. But most importantly I learned to just enjoy sports.
These are the ethics that are at the core of Active Regen and how we operate.

At Active Regen we do more than run very good sports programmes. We encourage children, young people and adults to experience sport and physical activity in a wider context not only as participants but as coaches, referees or umpires and are advocates of families "coming together" through their involvement in sports and physical activity.

In addition to the health benefits that our programmes generate, our activity provides diversion for young people at risk of offending and give them opportunities for learning and employment.
